Coaching Makes the World Go Round
♫ Thursday, July 22nd, 2010Coaching involves helping people reach their goals. Giving someone the solution to his problems is not a part of coaching. Coaching provides guidance, support, and motivation. When we think of coaching, usually sport coaching comes to mind. Football, soccer, baseball, and any other team sport usually require the help of a coach. Individual sports such as tennis and gymnastics also use coaches. People often forget that there are many other types of coaching out there.
Life coaching is a form of coaching many people are not familiar with. A life coach helps an individual learn how to focus and make changes in his life, in order to reach his life goals. Life coaching is more general than athletic coaching. Athletic coaching focuses on one specific area with a set end goal. Life coaching focuses on all areas in a person’s life. Life coaching is similar to athletic coaching in that both usually take time and are not accomplished over night. A life coach provides insight and empowerment to the individual to help him achieve things he could not otherwise achieve on his own. Typical areas that a life coach addresses are dating and relationships, health and weight, work life balance, and spiritual values.
Date coaching is another form of coaching. A date coach helps men and women improve their dating skills. Many people feel lost when it comes to dating. They may not be familiar with the modern day games and techniques involved in dating. A date coach can help people with their flirting and interactions with the opposite sex. He will teach them how to interpret signals or advances. He coaches on everything from where to meet the potential date to what to wear on the date. Typically the end goal in date coaching is the establishment of a long term, successful, fulfilling relationship.
Mentoring is a form of career coaching. A mentor is a person with specialized knowledge or skill in a particular area. He will guide someone with less skill or knowledge to help them gain experience that will benefit them in the long term. A youth mentor helps an adolescent make a smoother transition into adulthood. A person who is a good actor will not necessarily be good at coaching someone else to act well. The ability to teach is an important part of being an acting coach. A good acting coach should have either specialized knowledge in one area of acting or generalized knowledge that has helped many others to succeed. Many solid years of acting experience in addition to formal acting education is what many actors seek in a coach.
