Basketball Workout to Jump Higher

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Are you a basketball player that wants to learn how to jump higher? Most people that play basketball have the desire to increase their vertical leap but most people don’t know how to go about it. A basketball workout needs to incorporate jump training in as part of the workout. Every coach knows how to teach the fundamentals of basketball but that does not mean that they have an extensive knowledge of jumping or the proper techniques involved.

Many coaches teach many wrong practices when it comes to jumping so don’t go by what you hear a coach say unless they are a top notch sports and conditioning coach at a University. High school coaches for the most part are in no way qualified to teach jump training. A true regimen will not exist just to make the athletes sore and too many coaches and players believe that if a workout makes you really sore it is a great workout. This could not be further from the truth. In order for a workout to be effective you need to be training the proper areas of the body and training in the right way.

You need to do plyometrics along with weight training for the best results. Lets take a look at some of the strength training exercises that you could do. Calf Raises until you can do massive amounts of weight with great form and full range of motion. You don’t want the calves being the reason that you aren’t reaching yours goals. Training them hard is a great way to ensure that they don’t hold you back from your goals. When you jump you don’t squat all the way down before jumping so you need train by doing half squats and quarter squats as well. Doing them all will ensure that you get a deep bend before jumping because your legs will have the strength to hold you up. Cleans are a very technical workout that will help develop explosive power in the legs and the entire body, make sure that you are doing them correctly before doing heavy weight.

Basketball Hoop Accessories

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

What accessories can you add to your basketball hoop to make playing basketball more fun? More importantly, what can you add to bring your game to the next level? The things you can add are lights to play into the night, return aids, rebound helpers, retention net, and a ball carrier. Lights are most definite for outside courts. They allow you to truly play at night, and nighttime is some of the best time to play. It is cooler and simply has a better atmosphere. Some options for lights are just your average light that you put on your garage, or you could get a light up basketball net. These nets glow in the dark and some even light up extra when you score. Kind of cool. You can also get glow in the dark basketball as well.

Return aids also called basketball return nets or basketball chutes are very helpful when you are shooting and you want the ball to come back to a desired location like shooting free throw. These are connected to the rim and when a shot is made, the ball goes back to where the return net was pointing. Rebound helpers can be people, but I was talking about a piece of equipment that helps improve your rebounding ability. This device is placed inside the basketball hoop and helps with your rebounding skills. We all know how important rebounding is in the game of basketball. You need to practice more than just your dribbling and shooting out on that court.

A retention net helps you in rebounding ball. They are hooked the back of the basketball hoop and are big nets that catch all makes and miss of shots. These are somewhat spend, but allow you to get off a lot more shots because your ball will not be flying everywhere because the retention net will be catching it. Ball carriers are also very helpful if you have a lot of balls to go with them. With a lot of balls you do not have to chase after the misses. You can just grab the next ball of the rack. After you are done with a drills, you can take a break by picking up all the balls that went all over the place.
